actively involved.

Of course, it's up to you how much, and how often you help
Why become a volunteer?
Our branch volunteers are kept very busy throughout the year rescuing cats
and kittens and finding them loving new homes. It's a lot of work so
consequently more local helpers are urgently needed to support us in the
South Wirral area
It's not all hard graft,
volunteers enjoy the variety and the teamwork involved with running the
branch and get lots of "job satisfaction" from matching cats and
kittens with compatible new owners. Fostering cats, helping with fundraising
events, undertaking home checks are just some of the varied opportunities
for voluntary work with the South Wirral branch of Cats Protection
As a charity, we rely
solely on the generosity and support of the public to enable us to carry
out our work. From the smallest donation, to becoming a volunteer
We
do most of our work at weekends with some in the evening, most of us work
too. We do need volunteers who are available during the day. If you live in the
South Wirral area and would like to help please get in touch
Volunteer
Opportunities
These
roles are absolutely vital, can be a lot of fun and are great for your CV
or just for a little personal satisfaction!
FIELDWORK
This involves the real "hands on" stuff, you could be trapping
ferals for neutering, driving cats to the vets, home visiting
prospective adopters or fostering cats until they find new homes. You
can't get much closer to the heart and soul of Cats Protection
HOME CHECKER
Before any
of our cats are rehomed, a home visit must be carried out. We
are looking for Home Visitors for the CH60-66 areas and the role will involve visiting
prospective homes to ensure that
the new home and owners are
suitable for the chosen cat. This is an essential role within the branch and should be carried out
by someone who is a good judge
of character and who has a tactful nature,
A car is essential. This
is a very rewarding role and you will gain much satisfaction from seeing a
happy ending for the cat and family who adopt. You will also do follow up
visits to see how the cat has settled in with it's new family and discuss
any problems
fosterer
Can you offer a
homeless cat temporary accommodation? We urgently need more
caring and committed people to join our team of fosterers, so that we
can increase the number of cats that we can help. Our cats are cared for in individual homes and
fosterers take on
their care of cats and kittens until a new loving home can be
found for them, and are responsible for
physically looking after them. You would have a designated spare room in your home, or space in your
garden to have a cat cabin installed. All expenses i.e. food, vet bills,
litter, etc will be met by the Branch. We are looking for people who are caring without being
over-sentimental, with a sensible head on their shoulders and who
have a good working knowledge of cat care issues. To
find out what's involved visit our Become
a Fosterer page
FELINE
CHAUFFER
The cats in our care often
need transporting, sometimes at short notice. Cats may need to be collected to be brought into our care. They may need to be taken to the
vets, and then on to foster care, or taken from foster care to their new
home. If you are good
with cats and can spare a little time and your car, we would love you to help us
welfare
worker
Could
you be "on call" to help out in an emergency? Sometimes when we receive a
call about a stray cat, we need volunteers to go out at short notice to
assess the situation, and report back as to how urgently it needs help,
maybe to scan it for a microchip, to take a photograph or to transport
it to a vet. Sometimes we need to trap feral cats for neutering and to
collect garden born kittens with their mums. You will have to remain
calm and logical in difficult situations and not let your heart rule
your head. The qualifications we ask for, apart from the love of cats,
are that you have a sense of humour and can work as part of a team
FUNDRAISING
As
with any charity we always need volunteers to help us at fundraising
events. Without regular events, sales and original fundraising ideas, we
could not continue our work caring for cats and kittens. Our
branch is self-sufficient, relying solely on fund-raising to
help the cats in our care
To be a fundraiser you need plenty of stamina
and a good sense of fun. A car is almost always essential.
Fundraisers
help out on our stalls, volunteer for a 'stint' at Tin Shakes and other
events to ensure that the branch has a steady flow of income. The role is
varied and there is plenty of scope for people to specialise, e.g. car
booters - do you love car boot sales and attic sales and fancy doing some for our
branch
(with our goods)? Or If you can help us in any
way, please contact us. It's up to you how much, and how often you
help
