About Us

Volunteers needed urgently, fosterers, fundraisers, transporters, home checkers, if you live in the South Wirral area and would like to help please get in touch

volunteer holding catWe are a group of dedicated volunteers doing what we can to help the less fortunate felines in South Wirral, covering post-code areas CH60-66. We are motivated by a love of cats and a concern for their well-being

Read the article The Silent Meow, which touchingly describes a typical scenario, telling why we do what we do and how we do it

It is Cats Protection's mission to help unwanted and abandoned felines, rehabilitating them and rehoming them where possible, but the work doesn't stop there! We are active in many areas of cat welfare - rescue: rehoming; fostering; neutering; trapping and neutering of feral cats; maintaining a lost and found register; advice and information. Our objectives are:

To find good homes for cats in need
To support and encourage the neutering of cats
To improve people's understanding of cats and their care

As members of the South Wirral branch of Cats Protection, we are part of a much larger organisation that has been in existence for over eighty years. Cats Protection is the UK's oldest and largest cat welfare charity; it now has 256 voluntary-run branches and 29 adoption centres nationwide. For the bigger picture, see How It All Began

Being a branch of Cats Protection, we all work from our own homes. We meet on a regular basis to discuss and plan all aspects of branch management, and we communicate via email or telephone on more urgent issues. We have a dedicated group of volunteers to help us in our work

A large part of our work is the rescue and rehoming of  cats, giving them a second chance at a happy life in new loving homes. Our dedicated foster carers  look after the cats, either in a spare room of their home, or in purpose built chalets on their property. Sadly, we are only able to take in cats when we have the space, so we therefore need more fosterers

As well as the fosterers who look after the cats in our care until they can be rehomed, there is a wide range of other tasks to be carried out - home checking, transporting cats, vet runs, fundraising, collecting bric a brac, manning the Help Line, and publicity, as well as the organisational and administrative tasks necessary for the smooth running of the branch

An integral part of our work is to provide advice to the public through our Help Line. While our Help Line advisors cannot provide specific veterinary or legal advice, we do offer general information on a range of subjects from behaviour to quarantine. The Help line also assists callers wishing to adopt a cat from us, or who must give up their pets for various reasons. People whose cats have gone missing can register the details with us, as we keep a Lost and Found Register

2007 was a very important year for us, as it marked Cats Protection's 80th anniversary. Our charity has come a long way since it's small beginnings in 1927. Now we are celebrating our past, but also looking to the future, and we're hoping you will be able to help us do this

As a charity, we rely solely on the generosity and support of the public to enable us to carry out our work, from the smallest donation to becoming a volunteer. Why not join us? For just £5 per year you can become a Cats Protection member and get our quarterly newsletter full of news, information and photos of all things feline. To join us  Click here

You can help us in other numerous ways, read our

Our fundraising activities are advertised in the News and Events section of the website, so look out for upcoming dates as you may want to make a note in your diary to come along and support us, by buying something or putting some pennies in the tin
